NOTES: Habitat: outdoor pen, lower level; Apparent Biological Purpose of Sound: defence of Calf; What Behavior Accompanied Vocalization: slowly moved around calf; What Did Animal Do when not Vocalizing: stayed by the claf; Several Buffalos were housed in a large fanced area. the female recorded here, had recently given birth to a calf. she and the calf stayed in the middle of the pen while the other Buffalos stayed as far away from her as they could get. her vocalization got louder when a member of the herd got too close;.
