Observation details
After not seeing them in the last couple brief visits looking for a kingbird, I was starting to fear I cried wolf. This was particularly since I saw a couple Horned Grebes that seemingly had blackish breasts. But that's why we use multiple field marks...I knew I didn't get the peaked head with ears confused with HOGR. So I am happy to calm my conscience by spotting the pair again today. I needed to document them this time around, so these shots are digi-binned (cropped afterwards) through my 8X Zeiss binoculars with my iPhone. Hopefully a DSLR will get this pair in its sights. These grebes aren't easily spotted because they hang out on the opposite side of the lake as the observation lookouts. The grebes seem to be sticking to a small area. The best way to get close to them is to go to the far side of the lake where last year they pushed a gravel path along the rocks. From that gravel path, the grebes should be directly broadside of the observer.
