Observation details
This bird was originally found by Larry Lewis and he put the word out on the Chester County alert system. The entire time I was down at the lake the bird remained extremely distant and was very active feeding and occasionally flying. The bird was an adult female in full breeding plumage with the black head, reddish neck and white throat nicely visible using a 60X scope eyepiece. It spent much time erratically swimming and picking at the lake surface but not really “spinning” like phalaropes often do.
