Observation details
11:10am or so. Two birds drifting N/NE in a soar, gained altitude, ripped back and forth through the sky a bit (no apparent courtship-like activity), then glided to the south out of view. In view for 1 minute or more. Watched naked-eye. Not aged. Covered ground with great ease, fun to watch in action. Long, pointed wings; long tail with sharp corners and rather squared-off edge (possibly slightly notched); small head with hardly any projection noted. Unfortunate not to age the birds, given recent discovery of New England breeding raise that possibility since two birds were involved. But this was a prime day and time of the season for overshoot migrant MIKIs (hot, humid, SW breeze) and in fact MIKIs were also seen in Rhode Island (also two birds) and Long Island on this day.
