Observation details
Flagged as rare. I saw several reports of Whimbrels flying up the bay today, so I figured I would scope from the Crystal Pier at NPSP. Not long after I arrived, I saw a long, tight flock of largish brown birds flying up the bay. They were flying faster than cormorants - it actually reminded me of how sea ducks fly past at the OC Inlet. The flock quickly moved up the bay, then banked left at HMI and I lost track of them. I didn’t get much more than “large brown shorebird,” but given the size, behavior, and timing, I can only assume these were WHIM.
