Observation details
pair roosting on horizontal bough of tree away from trunk about 7-8 m. off ground : presumed male and female with the female the smaller bird: female exhibited some gaping behaviour which suggested she was trying to eject pellets: male engaged in gular vibration a bit like that of cormorants: both birds frequently had their eyes closed or only one eye open: the male had the remains of a small mammal under his right foot: the tail was closely furred and not scaly, blackish on the dorsal surface and off white on the ventral: it had a distinct coil in the tip: part of one foot was also visible and was a furred in a pale yellowish buff colour: all this suggests a young Brush-tailed Possum, the local race of which arnhemensis has the tail only sparsely furred:
