Media notes
This is the entire recording, and the rail can be heard not only at the beginning, but later. I did not see the bird, and the interest the male boat-tailed grackle showed in the noise confused me, especially since I haven't seen or heard a female boat-tailed grackle. I thought perhaps I had disturbed a female. Now I think he was just interested in the noise made by another species.
Observation details
heard a couple of times, but not recognized as a clapper rail when seen. I saw red eye, thin head and neck and body. Bird appeared to be tall for a clapper rail, but I haven't seen many of them. Recording of marsh wren (ML101761811) below has clapper rail call near end of the 1.06 minute recording. Repeated here.
