Observation details
Continuing male in breeding plumage, foraging and flying around in field east of parking lot #6. Mid-sized shorebird, comparable to the Black-bellied Plovers with which it was associating. Fairly long neck (closed ‘ruff’ giving it a shaggy appearance), with a proportionally small head; head, neck, much of upperparts and most of underparts (to legs/vent) dark brown-blackish; white eye rings/arcs, wing bars (narrow) and rump; bill appeared dusky/dark orange-red; leg color was not really discernible due to long grass in which the bird was feeding. Flew out of sight with BBPLs in direction of bay beach, a quick check of which yielded negative results, which in turn precipitated an exodus to nearby parking lot #7 where it had originally been found by Pat Lindsay on 5/22. A quick search there was also negative, but a text or phone call helped spread word that the bird had returned to the lot 6 field, which is where I last saw it before having to leave for work.
