It's got that burry, Blue Grosbeak-like quality about it. And the baseline phrases are pretty high; and the overall phrasing tends slow and not herky-jerky; good qualities for Western. But it also rambles about, and just doesn't seem like a typical Western to me.
Observation details
The vireo situation here is intriguing. A bird on the east side of 75th St. sounded like a good Eastern to me; no recording. Over on the west side, one bird didn't vocalize within my hearing. A third bird sounded like Eastern (discussion under that taxon), and a fourth (see below, under this taxon) was intermediate.
