Observation details
I returned to the pond, not happy with my photos from the afternoon. As I sat watching the Solitary and Stilt Sandpiper they were attacked and almost caught by a Merlin who came in from the south taking the birds by surprise. Stilt Sandpiper (Calidris himantopus) Green legs. Chestnut median crown strip. White supercilium contrasting chestnut brown lores and auriculars. Tertials, scapulars and mantle edged rufous brown and white. Undertail coverts, lower flank and belly strongly barred. Long decurved bill. Sewing -machine feeding habit contrasting the Yellowlegs closeby
