NOTES: (Species Sound: frequent; Breeding Status: territorial paired?, breeding; General Climate: arid; Cover Density: sparse) Male Gadwall chasing female Gadwall, taking off from Benson Pond, circling, and landing again on Benson Pond. This male, rather than heckling the female, seemed to be escorting her away from one or more other males that were approaching her on the pond. [This recording appears to combine the "Burp Call," which is best described by Cramp et al. (1977. Handbook of the birds of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa: the birds of the Western Palearctic. Vol. 1. Oxford University Press, Oxford) and shown in Fig. I on page 491, with the "tickety-tickety-tickety" Feeding Chatter described in BNA. Although several of the "burps" appear to lack the introductory whistle, the quality is different than that of the "quack" given by females. Good series of the Feeding Chatter occur at 0:06 and 0:075. Quality added (2, 2-3 - BEST between 0:05 and 0:085 before the song of Melospiza melodia) - CAM - 21 March 2005]. Other Behaviors: Mate, Perform Visual Display. Habitat: Wetland, Freshwater, Deciduous Forest, Riparian, Lake, Hedgerow.
