As more of the flats opened up with receding tide, the guest of honor strolled off on its own moving in the direction of the blind. A good view of the plumes at the base of the neck.
Деталі спостереження
Continuing bird. RARE but becoming regular. Another bird reported in DE earlier this summer. This bird first reported by Bill Bunn on 8 June. Very similar to SNEG but 20% larger. Similar foraging patterns though in my observations have seen it move in a more measured way, none of the antics of the SNEG that frequently leap in the air flaring their wings or running briefly, frantically to corral their prey in the shallow water. Single long nape plume (normally two) distinct from the SNEG's shaggy mane that is raised in agitated or excited states. Lores are a duller yellow tinged with green and the yellow feet are similarly tinged with green as distinct from the more orange yellow of the SNEG. Legs are dark grey to the 'ankle' and the tarsus is a lighter bluish gray.
