This is extraordinary. It's just a seething mass of rather remarkable serpents. AC: Where else could you see something like this? RS: From what Dr. Mason is telling me, there's nowhere else in the world where snakes gather in these sorts of numbers. Typically, they're very secretive, asocial sorts of beasts, and if you see more than two or three snakes at a time, you think it's pretty exciting stuff. This is mind blowing....... this place is remarkable, this is one of the wonders of the world. 41:19 -44:27 Ax -Rick Shine Questions/Answers reo humans and snakes. 45:56 -47:06 Ambi Snakes rustling in pit [VG] 48:00 -49:20 Ambi - snakes rustling in pit [VG] - [....then too windy] 51:49 -54:17 Ambi -AC follows female snake out of the pit.... 58:13 -59:11 AX: AC describes female plus mating ball I followed one female, very large female up the side of the pit. There were many males trying to drag her back in, but she finally made it. She got up from the pit and has gone another 20 feet, there's low brush here and old leaves from last year, and that's where she is now, she's stopped. There are so many males, they've managed to stop her. There's a pile of these males here, and they've completely engulfed her and she can't go any further. She's so much bigger than the males, you'd think she could get away, but there are so many of them, they block her. Every now and then, her head sticks up from this pile of snakes, and it looks as though she might try to make a break away from them, but she can't do it. There are so many of the males, they just engulf her and pull her back down. 59:15 - 1 :00:00 Ambi -Mating ball 1:04:06 - 1:05:30 Ambi -Walking plus snakes in leaves on way to pit [VG] Possible AC TRX [recorded in the snake den] 1:06:00 -1:06:43 TRX :AC: I'm standing... .limestone pit. really what you see are snakes....thousands and thousands of garter snakes 1:08:24-1:08:30 TRX: AC: We've come here to talk to one of the world's leading snake scientists, Dr. Bob Mason of Oregon State University. 1:14:23 -TRX AC This is the Narcisse Management Area...snakes writhing all around me 1:20:30 -1 :20:48 TRX AC As active as these snakes are....hibernate in September, don't move until early May 1:23:03 -1 :23:07 TRX AC Dr. Rick Shine from Australia 1:26:50 -126:53:2 Dr. Mason's fascination with snakes began a long time ago..... 1:27:03 -1:29:22 TRX: AC "I've got a garter snake in my hands now.
