Détails de l'observation
While walking along the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, I noticed a group of 3 high-flying, distant birds with very slow wing beats out of the corner of my eye, and luckily I had my 30x zoom camera in my pocket to take a couple of distant photos as they circled a couple of times. I believe the shape of the birds, including the trailing legs, is diagnostic in my photos. UPDATE: This is apparently the first documented record of Sandhill Crane for D.C., and also, according to Joe Hanfman: "DC was the only ABA area not to have had a Sandhill Crane (not counting the recently added Hawaii). Now all 49 continental states, all Canadian provinces, and St. Pierre & Miquelon have had the cranes."
