Continuing bird. Discovered by Keir Randall. Observed bird perched on bare roots and branches in the middle of POND 3. A striking and unmistakable medium sized rail with deep purple below and olive green/blue/aqua blue upper parts, bright white undertail coverts, pale shield/forehead, deep orange-red large triangular short bill with yellowish tip, and reddish eyes. The bright colorful plumage of this individual quickly eliminated the dull brown/gray/black Common Gallinule. Enjoyable and extended views of this bird as it methodically hopped from one set of bare roots to the next, carefully probing and feeding at the water's surface-frequently flicking its tail up to expose white undertail. Seen from the raised dirt barrier on the west side of the pond, about midway down by the downed power/phone lines and broken poles. Studied with 8x42s and 20x80 scope. Digiscoped with cellphone.
