NOTES: (Gen. Climate: Wet. Gen. Habitat: See pp. 307 & 308 of Studies of Mascarene Island Birds, ed. A.W. Diamond.) The nestlings (two likely, as heard at end of LNS 58692) were lost during the night or late evening of 11th-12th. Heavy rain fell and during morning (as heard on recording) of 12th. Likely the young were lost to predation (rats or Hypsipetes borbonicus) as when we left at 1630 on the 11th they were heard and the male was brooding. At 0700 hrs none were heard and the adult behaviour shirt. The male kept singing as is recorded on this cut. Unknown vocalization = new previously unheard call from C. newtoni. Themale behaviour has shifted considerably since yesterday. the female was not seen during this recording. LNS 58694 is playback response. I played back once I had established that the nest was lost in order to get the male reactions. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Cloudforest, Evergreen Forest, Montane Grassland, Thicket/Brush, Scrub.
