NOTES: NML studies, 1951-53. Well-acclimated captives (13) in glass aquaria: loud clicks similar to snapping of finger against thumb associated with feeding and introduction into new sourroundings (i.e., possible orientation), coincident with sharp upward flexing of head and rapid movement of mouth parts. During preliminaries to copulation, occasional high level snaps often produced alternately by two fishes and, during actual embrace, loud and almost continuous high-frequency clicking. Sounds of the Western North Atlantic fishes: a reference file of biological underwater sounds. Johns Hopkins Press. Baltimore. p. 19.
