NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 2. LNS Bulk reel: 02. Weather: cloudy, fair Notes: Natural song. This may be the same bird as in Cut 1. With a field tape prepared from cut 2, this same spot was visited @ ~1630hr of 7 Feb. No bird was singing; waited until ~1715 hr then started playing tape. After repeated playing a bird was heard. At first I thought it was far away but later realized it was fairly close but was singing very quietly; this was to the south of me. Shortly before dark, ~20-30m to west a bird was heard to fly up into the trees. Then after a short while a bird was seen ~15m to south and it then flew up to a tree (app. both birds flew up to roost for night) and it was collected: = female #[blank], which had a completely formed egg in oviduct. On other occasions the hunters decoyed birds by whistling the song and on two occasions the bird was also female (a male also collected but I don't know if by whistling). Is this song of the female? Or is it that the female is attracted by the song of the male? Sound recorded at varying tape speeds: 3.75 and 7.5. Quality: 2 throughout. Levels: +5 throughout. 203 w/ LN eq.
