Observation details
Tiny goose patterned like a Canada goose. It was roughly the size of nearby mallards, which were in the same binocular field when I first spotted the bird. As shown in the photos it was smaller than GWFG-like domestic goose with which it was consorting. My views in the field were better than what appears in these photos, which were digi-binned somewhat unsuccessfully. The bird was a typical Cackler from the small end of the spectrum, although I don't want to guess about which subspecies it might have been because I just couldn't see it well enough. Square head and short, triangular bill was almost Ross's like. I couldn't see if it had a white collar below the black neck. In short, the identification of this bird wasn't ambiguous. However province is possibly somewhat icky. It could be a summering bird, perhaps human fed. I am not local here so I don't know if this is a continuing bird although I don't see any ebird reports in the last few weeks. Crappy digi-binned photos attached. They are sufficient to show the overall dark coloration, the short neck, and the size relative to the GWFG / domestic.
