Observation details
Under a cedar hedge. Fine, crisp black streaking on breast, flanks and undertail coverts, unlike the brownish blurry streaks of the SOSP , thin and pointed bill not stubby and broad as in Song Sparrow. Cream ochre tones on breast, malar stripe and flanks, buffy eye ring. Noted- it's thin gray centre crown stripe, bordered by rufous stripes with slight black flecking and the broad gray supercilium and neck. Little white throat with neat and crisp black streaking. Smaller and slighter build than Song Sparrow. Half the body width of the WTSPs which chased it continually. The Lincoln's seemed to have a taller stance when alert/longer legs and a shorter tail than WTSP. The Lincoln's Sparrow does a lot more wing flicking than the other sparrows present. Ochre tones on breast, flanks and malar stripe really make this bird stand out.
