Observation details
First found by Bruce Labar on July 21 with photos from 11th St Bridge. Ann Marie and I did not find it there in a.m.. We returned to bridge at 2:45 and did not see. We went to Gull bathing spot upriver and quickly found the continuing adult Slaty Back. Very dark mantle. Yellow bill with red spot. Plain white head and underparts. Black primaries with white spots near end. (So called "string of pearls"). Pink legs. Large Gull. Yellowish eye with reddish orbital ring. Stood out from nearby other larus and California gulls. See photos. Presumablybably same individual first seen in this area in past years. Bruce's record is the first (at least on Ebird) after April and before September or maybe even October outside of Alaska.
