Observation details
juvenile/first-winter bird first found yesterday by Tim & Byron; seen late that afternoon by R. Kostecke. foggy when we first got to the overlook and we scanned with bins from the car a couple times and saw no birds (and no gulls). I looked up along the edge of the rocks along the dam and found the BLKI suddenly coming towards us and got Maggie on it. I went to the back of the car to get my camera and Maggie got out as well but then the bird disappeared. Sue Tichy later arrived and (about 15 mins since initial sighting) Maggie found the BLKI again high over the inlet just west of the overlook and then it made a couple passed by the overlook corner of the lake and back to the inlets before we lost it again. Very overcast and dreary and a bit distant but photos show all the key field marks (black M on wings, black tip on white tail, dirty gray back, white underwings with black edges, white head with black and black bill) except the black collar which was seen well en vivo.
