Interesting individual, showing far browner coloration overall than expected for a kumlieni, but extreme variation is not fully known. The heavily barred coverts give me pause for thayeri, but also not unknown from the west. The tail is nearly completely brown, and bill nearly all dark. The primaries are beautifully pale tinged and brown overall. The marbling on the coverts and primaries also feels extreme for Thayer’s, but still possible. What do you think, Marshall? Looks like it could be the same bird as yours.
