Juvenile bird that Paul W spotted yesterday with clear views at close proximity. Unable to relocate yesterday. Found today in same general area. Enormous, all-brown raptor with very long wings and a prominent and well-defined white patch near the base of its tail, spotted as it was taking off from the ground, flushed as our car entered the intersection. Photos are from behind, but diagnostic, showing the white tail patch, loooooong wingspan, and hooked bill.
