Juvenile PALO observed from shelter 9, after briefly seen earlier from the dam. Smaller size than COLO; shorter & more slender bill; rounder head; no white around eye; dark chinstrap; hindneck paler than back; clean vertical division between white & dark on neck sides; dark sides & flanks. Aged as juv/1st cycle by wavy, pale edging on back & scapular feathers. PALO's neck looks like a barber shop pole in second to last photo!
