觀察細節

The photo makes the coloration look blotchy, it was not, it was solid - charcoal color on top of head, neck and back, all white on throat and upper chest, orange yellow bill, top part of bill has a black "stripe" about 2/3 the way down, has shorter bill like Pied Billed, I estimate it is only about 10 inches long. I looked at all grebe species in the world on ebird and I can find no photos that help me identify the bird with certainty!
