Flagged rare. Small, all white heron with relatively short neck and orange bill initially seen with scope sitting and preening in shallow section of the New River approximately 0.3 miles downstream from northern end of park with large flock of RBGUs (37.114043,-80.595707). About the same size as the nearby RBGUs. The bird eventually took off several minutes later with the last of RBGUs heading upstream toward Claytor Lake at 4:50 p.m. Rapid wingbeats and dark legs noted in flight. Poor scope photos obtained. Strange observation for sure.
