Pair defending nest cavity from another female
Observation details
Two pairs of Purple Martins is a great find by Stuart Angerer. The holes in the telephone pole on the Service Rd were previously made by Acorn Woodpeckers and used by European Starlings in recent years. This year apparently the Purple Martins and Western Bluebirds are interested. The male Purple Martin was a bright and shiny dark purple bird. It had a deeply forked tail. The female was gray below with purple crown and back. The birds flew around and the males sang.
