I often check out this pond in NW Hays Co., when time permits. Today as I passed by I saw two medium sized gulls on the pond in the distance. I thought they might be Franklin's Gulls, but stopping to look closer they were adult Laughing Gulls by the bill length and structure as well as head and wing tip plumage pattern and structure. Laughing Gulls will occasionally wander into central Texas from the Gulf coastal areas, but it is far from an every day occurrence. Both were molting from winter (Basic) plumage to summer (Alternate) plumage, but one bird was somewhat more advanced with a mostly dark head. I took a few shots with the camera and lens I had in the vehicle, then went home to get a larger telephoto and returned to get some better shots.
