Gözlem detayları
Continuing rarity found a week prior. Large kingbird with gray crown and gray back, brown wings with pale edged feathers, tail brown lacking white on sides or tip. Tail notched. Wing and tail feathers showed wear. Bill thick and long, black. Legs and feet black. Broad black mask. Throat, sides of neck and underparts all white. Larger and lighter in color than Eastern Kingbird, lacks white tail tip. Eastern is smaller overall with a smaller bill, darker head and back and lacks mask. Lacks any yellow shown in western kingbird species. The bird was perched on powerlines along Mt. Eden Road the entire time I observed it. It flew to the ground several times to catch insects. Another observer mentioned it caught a grasshopper at one point. A Northern Mockingbird displaced it from its perch at one point but didn't bother it any further. There are two other state records accepted by the Pennsylvania Ornithological Records Committee.
