Detalhes da observação
I had gotten a text from Greg Hirth about an empid flycatcher he had at Peterson Farm. After some discussion I decided to change my plans and head straight there. Given all the western flycatcher reports lately, I couldn’t get myself to ignore the possibilities! When I arrived, I immediately heard a vocalization- a single note that sounded consistent with Hammond’s. It took me 20 minutes to find the bird. When I finally managed photos, I was beyond excited because I immediately felt my photos showed it was a Hammond’s. I ended up reporting it as such with Greg and others. I saw a contrasting gray head, long primary extension, complete eye ring and the vocalization I heard but was unable to record. As more people gathered to see the bird, it was closely scrutinized to rule out Dusky. Kudos to Greg for finding the bird! I’m glad I was lazy this morning and not on the outer Cape when I heard about an empid in my hometown:)
