Observation details
Molting fall adults. Large shorebirds with long bicolored slightly upturned bills, white rump patch, black tail, and distinctive black wing linings. A flock of seven flew in and landed for a couple minutes, then left again flying southeast. About 5 minutes later, a single bird flew in and put down in one of the ponds. My assumption is that it got separated from the flock. I snapped some photos as the flock was flying over, and to my surprise, could see they were Hudsonian Godwits. Those are the last birds myself and other birders in the area ever expected to see in St. Joseph County. Incredible birds for an inland county and a county record. Photos attached of the flock and of the single bird that stayed for the day.
