Observation details
A possible WHITE-TAILED EAGLE flew over Battery Godfrey today at 12:58 PM crossing north into Marin just west of the Golden Gate Bridge. First spotted by John Facchini in the distance southeast of Battery Godfrey, we determined it was an eagle as it flew closer to our position, and I remarked that the tail looked messed up-- seemed stumpier relative to the body and had less white than it should. Noting the pale head, we assumed Bald Eagle, took a few photos and watched it cross. Eddie Monson texted this evening after seeing my eBird photo suggesting it could be a White-tailed Eagle, and that seems to be the emerging consensus. Other experts will hopefully be able to weigh in tomorrow to confirm, but wanted to get the word out now, particularly for birders in Marin and points north.
