Observation details
**Rare continuing migrant shorebird originally found by Sue Barth. Despite directions and familiarity with this spot had to initially work to find this guy in dismal conditions. Heard "keek" call while in flight along banks of larger lake, and found in protected bay foraging along shore. Chunky Dowitcher mostly grayish overall with black scalloping of mantle with slight rufous tones. Plain gray tertials minus any barring. Straight supercillium which can be a better indicator of species unlike bill size. Bill thick , straight and extremely long almost snipe like, used in typical sewing machine action. Seasonally more prevalent this time of year than SBDO. Photos TBA.
