Observation details
Medium sized passerine - light gray above with lighter underside, black wings and mask, hooked bill. Photos. This was a cool sighting. After spotting the shrike out in a distant tree, I sat down and watched it for awhile and eventually was rewarded to see it fly to a tree near me, then dive to the ground and come up with a mouse/small rodent. It clung to the unfortunate victim with one, then both feet, much like a raptor with its prey - then flew with it deep into the branches of another tree further from me where it tore into the rodent, eating it immediately, and not caching it.
