Observation details
Nesting pair in scrub dominated by Encelia californica and Artemisia californica. See photos of male and female. Although ebird considers California Gnatcatchers to be "rare" in this area, small numbers are resident in coastal sage scrub that grows on the north side of Rose Hills Memorial Park and south side of the Puente Hills Landfill, around "Nike Hill" (named after this location's history as Nike Missile site "LA-14" during the Cold War).
