Observation details
We were pleasantly surprised to find an adult male feeding and singing in a patch of bamboo in the forest, and even more so when several hours later we found a pair in a different bamboo spot! Bamboo is abundant at this location and we had our hopes up for other bamboo specialists, but were quite happy with Blue Seedeater! Initially, we considered these observations separate, but in hindsight it seems likely that the pair we encountered toward the end of our transect included the male we had seen a few hours earlier. The distance between these two spots is probably only 300-400 m, "as the seedeater flies". Birds were feeding quite actively and were often readily observed, but the contrasting bamboo vegetation made photography challenging. When we found the pair together, I did playback obtained from presumably the same male earlier that morning, and he came in twice to inspect that, without counter-singing.
