Observation details
An approximate count. Difficult to get an exact count because of the aerial and ground movement of the birds. At least nine birds and probably no more than fifteen, so twelve seems a good compromise. Chicken like bird. Black beak, brown eye, yellow eye combs on the males, spotted brown and white. Sharp pointed tail. Males had visible purple fleshy throat areas which they would partially inflate while calling. See embedded pictures. Life bird for me and very cooperative allowing great photo opportunities. I could see the Milepost 174 marker as we were watching these birds. I'd say we were at MP 174 plus (as in east and north or closer to Glenallen) 125 meters or so. Birds were mostly on the north side of the road, although some flew across the road to the south side. We didn't track those birds other than by ear, as we were intent on the birds on the north side of the road. Also observed by my wife Julie and Enric F. and we all had a grand time! Awesome birds!! (and very entertaining!)
