Observation details
Flew into tree above Bartola River below first big rapids. Observed by guide for first time in 11 years as a guide at Refugio Bartola in Nicaragua and he identified it while it was flying. Observed by Gordon Greer, Denise Orr, Elliott Whitby and Ardith Ekdahl and the guide Juan Jose. Observed for about ten minutes starting at 9:36 AM. Guide said that it was a young female. We believe that it is not a Crested Eagle due to the very large claws, thick legs, feathers down almost the whole leg and Grey patch on the chest. We have many more photos if needed.
