Here's the word from Clive Mann- Cuckoo Fundi: "Lack of eye-ring, all dark bill, lack of pale edging & tipping to wings & back all good for female nominate Black Cuckoo. If it were Red-chested juvenile there would be pale edging & tipping to wings & back, and if adult would be grey above with red on chest. " This plumage is not represented in the standard field guides for East Africa. Paul Oliver commented on the TZ birds FB page that the lack of an eye ring and an all black bill was convincing for him for Black Cuckoo
