Observation details
Landed with helicopters from the Russian icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov to see the Emperor Penguin colony on the sea ice just south of Snow Hill Island. Hard to estimate numbers from a quick visit but recent counts by researchers have put this colony between 4,000-7,000 breeding pairs. Today we visited multiple smaller subcolonies spread out on the ice.
