Heard only. I didn't list this initially, because I didn't recognize it, and neither did Merlin Sound ID, but the latter did provide a recording. I asked a friend for any suggestions afterward, and he suggested Evening Grosbeak. I listened to several Evening Grosbeak sounds in Cornell's "All About Birds," with the location set to Washington. The calls matched very well.
