Observasjonsdetaljer
Continuing colossal beasts, originally reported (large counts anyway) on 1/13/22 by L. Huber, and I think A. Perla (thank you!). As we pulled up, two separate duos came in trumpeting, presumably from the pond at Hwy 149 and 99. All in all, there could have easily been 45+ birds, but some eventually seemed to work their way over the small ridge, heading downhill and out of sight. Our count of 33 represents a conservative number of mostly adults and few juvs. Large, gorgeous, concolorate swans. Notably larger than nearby TUSW, with some good diagnostic looks at various comparative field marks. For example, overall structure and shape, shape of the bill, facial feathering and voice were all observed/heard. Aside from size difference, TRUS had larger bills and the shape of the feathering below the eye abutting the bill forms a smooth line/arch to the lower mandible, whereas the TUSW generally showed a straight line forward that breaks downward towards the lower mandible at a much greater angle. Overall, amazing birds to see, study and hear!
