The cricket was stridulating under a rock under a bush in garden by porch of this house. For several nights I had been placing the microphone under the bush but could not get close enough for a good signal/noise ratio, the background noises coming in too strongly. However, tonight we apparently got the microphone right on the cricket as an excellent tape was obtained. Several minutes of tape were run off and this was retained. After the recording was made, the insect was found and captured for identification. Other Behaviors: Reproduction. Equipment Notes: Tapesonic 70-C 1/2 track recorder About 50" of 2-conductor, shielded cable brought signal inside house to Astatic LT6 matching line transformer at recorder which was designed for 60 cycles but operated on 50 cycles with lager capstan. Speed accurately checked to be OK.
