Changing ID to Herring x Glaucous hybrid on feedback from Jerry M., based on the bird in question having dusky primaries - thanks, Jerry. Agree that hybrid seems more likely, but as 'food for thought,' there are reputable online sources seemingly showing "Glaucous Gulls" having non-white primaries, e.g., picture of the juvenile in flight at https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/glaucous-gull. But perhaps those were hybrids, too. (P.S. Thanks to Jackson M. on recent comments on Iceland and Glaucous Gulls - it's an interesting topic and challenging ID puzzle even with pictures.) Original comments: Against my better judgment, stopped off at South Pier over lunch, in the snowfall. Just an amazing number of gulls on South Pier both adjacent the enclosed pond and at the far east end. At one point, I saw a relatively large and pale/mottled gull, which seemed to be lacking black wingtips, fly from the pond area over Lampe Campground. Couldn't get any great photographs, but the best shows a decent sized gull with dark beak tip and lacking black wing tips, which is in line with 1st winter Glaucus Gull. See picture.
