original text (originally reported w/ some doubt as Connecticut): We were eating dinner when Alexa said hey what’s that bird in the flowers? We walked over to front window and there was a robust warbler all yellow underneath working through cutleaf coneflowers I thought maybe mourning watched with eyes from just a couple feet away but then it flew. Luckily came back and we could watch with binoculars point blank. Foraged in flowers and small shrubs and also walked along ground for periods of 30-60 seconds. Surprised to see that it had full (or nearly so) eye ring and combined with walking a lot and throat pattern (seemed like a shadow of a hood- photos show hood is fairly obvious) I started to think Connecticut. Please let me know if wrong. Set and setting so strange, watching it as it walked through garden at distance of 5-30 feet Took some pics that were horrible and then finally got some pics through binoculars. Amazing find by Alexa! additional text (Sep 25): I now think Mourning for multiple reasons (thanks to several folks for discussion) - looking at poor "live" phone pics the bird hopped along ground, not walked (though I remember it walking ovenbird-style, the pics clearly show the bird hopping, so it must have hopped at least most of the time) - the tail doesn't seem super short the way a Connecticut would be - the eyeing is there but not complete and blindingly obvious the way Connecticut should be - watching in the field it was not as obvious as it looks in the photo, but even photo shows a bit of a gap.
