As I walked up the start of the Rockefeller Family Trail where Webber Ave. turns into Sleepy Hollow Road, I noticed a group of sparrows hanging out in and around a holly tree, loaded with berries. I then noticed, what appeared to be a sparrow with bold, white markings on its head, fly into the tree and hide among the branches. I decided to sit on a rock and wait (with high hopes). Several sparrows then left the tree and then, one by one, they flew away leaving this one, incredibly beautiful sparrow, with its bold head pattern, perched on a rock. To my absolute delight it stayed (posed) long enough for me to capture several photos. My first Lark Sparrow also appears to be the first at Rockefeller Park bringing the park total to 199 species (according to eBird). It was truly a thrill to see this species of bird for the first time! (Photos).
