Cock stood on a rock, calling like a rooster crowing. Other birds, possibly family group, joined in. When not vocalizing, the bird scratched around apparently getting ready to roost for the night. The Haleakala Crater (dormant) is 7 miles by 2.5 miles wide. The crater floor averages 7500 feet at the west end and about 8000 feet elsewhere. The west is dry and desert-like and suitable for this species. The east is lush and more-suited for rainforest birds. ML: Chukar (Alectoris chukar) was split from Rock Partridge (A. graeca) after this recording was made; the North American birds (including those in Hawaii) refer to the former species. BNA: This appears to represent the "Rally Calls" of multiple birds (following BNA) - CAM - 21 March 2005. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rocky.
