***mega; first state record. Long awaited first state and New England record after the last few years of increasing vagrant records. Much like many of these records (Mutchler et al, 2025) this bird seems to be a second year bird. Speckled ssp group by extensive speckling on the back (rather than plain brown in Brown-backed). This bird spent almost all of its time foraging on inverts on the lawns of the neighborhood providing exceptional looks. At one point it flew up and landing on a white Tesla parked in a driveway.
