Dettagli dell'osservazione
Initially eBirded this as a "pewee sp." writing: "Appeared as Olive-sided but seen too briefly to be sure." I saw the bird almost only in flight, moving about in extremely fast pursuit of insects. Right away I thought it was an Olive-sided and moved around the yard trying to find a view where I could see it perched. I never succeeded in that but attempted photos while it was in flight. I thought I whiffed but actually got a couple, literally 2. The photos reinforce what I saw in the field at the time, which was a large Contopus, with very long wings, a broad tail, and a heavy bill. Pics seem to show also some darker streaks down the flanks. Chris Benesh also pointed out the nice bold edgings to the tertials, and pale fringing to the dark flanks (what I'd referred to as streaks). The last flight I saw it take was higher and headed south.
